#1 Best Gaming Laptop Under $1500: Eluktronics MECH-15
The Nvidia RTX series of graphics cards have finally arrived in laptops for less than 1500 dollars. The first Nvidia RTX laptop you’ll find for under $1500 is the Eluktronics Mech-15, that comes with an Nvidia RTX 2070 GPU! This graphics card provides near flawless gaming performance and will run pretty much any game you throw with 60+ fps. If you have a look at the benchmarks of the RTX 2070, you’ll see that almost all games run at 60+ fps on 1920×1080 resolution and many games run at 60+ fps even on higher resolutions.
You might not have heard of Eluktronics before, but even if this brand is not as known as the big gaming laptop brands, it often has more affordable laptops with just as good performance as the big brands. On sites with many customer reviews, such as Amazon, they usually have favorable reviews.
The design of the Eluktronics Mech-15 is clean and professional. This isn’t the ordinary flashy gaming laptop with red details and colorful logos. It does fit better in a professional setting than most gaming laptops, but many people would say the design looks a bit dull and ordinary. The keyboard is fully mechanical, something rare in gaming laptops, and has a really nice feel when gaming.
As with most gaming laptops expect a below average battery life. You’ll have to play plugged in for longer gaming sessions since the battery will usually only handle a maximum of 2 hours of gaming.
It comes with 16 GB DDR4 RAM and has an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8750H processor. The fast NVMe SSD, with 512 GB of storage, allows for lightning-fast load and boot times. These specs combined with the powerful graphics card makes this our winner and the best gaming laptops under $1500.
Summary: The Eluktronics Mech-15 gaminng laptop has overall excellent gaming performance. That’s why, despite the relatively unknown brand, it’s our winner this May.
|Excellent gaming performance||Dull design|
|Appealing mechanical keyboard||Average speakers|
|Runs 3D modeling software lag free||Subpar battery life|
#2 144hz IPS display and Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics: Asus Rog Strix Hero II
The latest Asus Rog Strix model has some excellent hardware for the price, but it’s not perfect.
It has a nice, sleek design with a brushed metal lid but the thing that makes this laptop stand out is the backlit keyboard. You can select any color scheme from the included Aura Core program. The build quality is excellent. It has the same robust and sturdy design as it’s predecessors.
The hardware is the standard hardware you’ll find in the best laptops under $1500, an Nvidia GeForce 1060 GPU, an Intel Core i7 CPU (i7-8750H), 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD combo. Those specs will provide excellent gaming performance but they also pose a risk of heating issues.
To prevent heating issues, Asus worked hard on the cooling of this laptop. They included two 12V fans, a heatsink, and triple radiators. This means it will stay cool even during intense gaming, but it also means the fans will be a bit loud. You can dial the fans down, however, to get maximum cooling you have to accept the fan noise. Another issue some reviewers had with this laptop is issues concerning the speakers.
As with any high-end laptop with specs as good as these, the battery life will suffer. Expect less than 2 hours of battery life on high load.
The best thing about the Asus Rog Strix II is the screen. It is a full HD IPS display with good view angles and vivid colors. It has a refresh rate of 144hz so you can play games with 144 fps for better response times and smoother gaming experience.
Summary: The Asus Rog Strix II has the best display you can find in any gaming laptop under 1500. You can play almost any game on it with the impressive hardware. However, the fans tend to be loud and as with most laptops with specs like these, expect a low battery life.
|Excellent screen||Loud fans|
|Fast Solid State Drive||Poor battery life|
|Customizable RGB keyboard||Some reviewers had issues with the speakers|
#3 Most affordable: Acer Predator Helios 300
The Acer Predator Helios 300 has similar hardware as our winner, but it has a much more affordable price! With the Nvidia GTX 1060, 144Hz IPS Display and an 8th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, it has the hardware you’ll find in the best gaming laptops under $1500 but with a price of less than a grand.
To read all about it make sure to check out our guide of the best gaming laptops under $1000.
It doesn’t have a large hard drive and can sometimes run a bit hot, but with the low price, it’s definitely a deal to consider.
#4 First Nvidia RTX 2060 laptop under $1500: MSl GL63 8SE-209
Nvidia’s RTX series has finally arrived in a laptop for less than $1500. The MSI GL63 comes with the Nvidia RTX 2060, but is it worth it?
The Nvidia RTX 2060 has 51% better benchmarks than the Nvidia GTX 1060. The framerates you’ll get in gaming with this graphics card is amazing. Have a look yourself at the end of this article. Scroll down this article and look at the frame rates you’ll get on the latest games with this graphics card! If the graphics are this much better why isn’t this gaming notebook our winner?
The reasons it’s in the fourth place are:
1: This is a new laptop with a new graphics card, so there is a risk of problems down the line, that will be solved at a later time. When you get something this recent, you’ll always have to be ready to face some issues that neither MSI or Nvidia have predicted.
2: There are some drawbacks when it comes to the rest of the hardware compared to the other top rated laptops:
Compared to the other laptops in the top that have 8th gen Intel Core i7 CPUs, this laptop comes with the Intel Core i5-8300H. If you compare the CPUMark, it has a 24% weaker CPU with a score of 9500 compared to the 12561 of the Intel Core i7 8750H. Another drawback of the hardware is the storage. The only included storage is the 256GB SSD. This means you might have to buy additional storage.
One thing that’s well made on this laptop is the keyboard made by SteelSeries. It has smooth, clicky feedback, perfect for gaming. The trackpad is poor, but since this is a gaming laptop, you’re most likely going to use a gaming mouse anyway.
The screen is a full HD TN-panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It has fast response time and good brightness. It’s not an IPS display, so the viewing angles are quite poor. The colors are good enough for gaming, but not accurate enough for graphics design work.
Summary: The MSI GL62 8SE-209 is the first RTX 2060 gaming laptop you can get for under $1500. It has excellent gaming performance but it lacks in the rest of the hardware compared to the competition, that’s why it’s forth on our list.
|Best graphics you can get for the price||CPU is weaker than the competition|
|Feels great to game on||Only 256GB of storage|
|Good cooling system||Poor viewing angles|
#5 Best Heat Management: Dell G7
The Dell G7 has excellent hardware and keeps cool even during long gaming sessions. It used to cost over $4000 on Amazon.com, but before you rush to buy it, there are some things to be aware of.
The black chassis is made of 99% plastic. Even if it’s made of plastic, it feels really sturdy. The keyboard has a nice blue backlight and good key placement. All the keys are just where they need to be. The biggest disadvantage of the keyboard is the shallow key travel.
The screen is a full HD Led display that is unfortunately quite dim, and the colors are a bit dull. The screen only covers 62% of the sRBG gamut.
Under the keyboard, you’ll find some excellent components. The CPU is the Intel Core i7-8750H, a processor released this year with 6 cores, that will handle any program you throw at it. The graphics card is the Nvidia GTX 1060, the standard graphics card you’ll find in the best laptops under $1500. It has 16GB RAM of the latest generation of RAM, and it features both a 1TB hard drive and a 128GB SSD, so you can load Windows with lightning speed.
The biggest advantage of the Dell G7 is the excellent heat management. It has two large fan exhausts on the backs and will constantly provide low temperatures even when you have played demanding games for a longer period. The downside to this is that the fan noise is clearly noticeable if you’re not wearing a headset.
Summary: The Dell G7 has excellent hardware for smooth and lag-free gaming. However, the screen is a bit dim and the colors are dull. That’s why the Dell G5 is our number #5 on the list of the best gaming laptops under $1500.
|Amazing gaming performance||Dim display|
|Solid build quality||Shallow keys|
|Runs cold||Loud fan noise|

The newcomer for April 2019 is the Asus Rog Zephyrus M. It’s a solid Nvidia GTX 1060 gaming laptop for under $1500.
It has a slim design with a brushed aluminum chassis and rear exhausts illuminated in red on both sides. It has a nice look but it the metal lid is prone to fingerprints. You can adjust the color and brightness on the fully customizable RBG keyboard. It’s a good keyboard for gaming with a clicky feel and good key travel. The biggest design flaw of this laptop is that it doesn’t come with an ethernet port.
With the 144Hz full HD IPS panel and the Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card, you’ll get excellent gaming visuals. It has an 8th gen Intel Core i7 CPU and 16GB DDR4 RAM.
You’ll also get plenty of storage with the 256GB SSD and the 1TB HDD. Overall, it’s got excellent performance, but it can be a bit loud during load, especially if you set it to overboost mode. The upside to the loud fans is that it stays cool even during long gaming sessions.
Summary: The Asus Rog Zephyrus M has excellent gaming performance and will stay cool alll day. Unfortenately, it lack an ethernet port and the battery life is average at best.
|G-sync ready with excellent gaming performance||No ethernet port|
|Stays cool||Noisy during load|
|144hz IPS panel||Short battery life|

Summary: If you want a gaming laptop with a bit more professional look, that still can handle the latest games, defenitely consider the MSI GS63VR Stealth Pro.
|Fast SSD and plenty of storage||Bloatware|
|Good Full HD IPS display||Noisy fans|
|Powerful graphics card|
The Ultimate Guide To Buying a Gaming Laptop Under $1500
When buying a high-end gaming laptop, there is one thing that will have a big impact on your gaming performance. There are also some things that will make your gaming experience a lot better. Let’s start with the thing that will have a major impact on your gaming performance.
Pick the right graphics card
I have already talked quite a bit about picking the right graphics card in the buying guide of my list of the best gaming laptops under $1000. If you haven’t already, read it to understand why you need to look for a current and dedicated graphics card in your next gaming laptop under $1500, or any gaming laptop for that matter.
In this price range, you should get the Nvidia GeForce 1060 graphics card. It’s a strong graphics card that can run most games on smooth frame rates on high or ultra graphics settings.
In some rare cases, you can get a gaming laptop with the Nvidia GeForce 1070 graphics card for under $1500, but you’ll often have to sacrifice performance in another part of the notebook to get a graphics card as powerful as the Nvidia GeForce 1070.
The ASUS ROG GL702VS is an example of a laptop that is sometimes available for less than $1500 with the Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card. It has excellent gaming performance, but it has only 12Gb RAM compared to the standard 16 GB in this range and has lackluster battery life.
There are also many gaming laptops with graphics cards weaker than the Nvidia GTX 1060, like the Nvidia 1050. Ignore these as you can get much better gaming performance for the money.
Get at least 16GB RAM
If you have $1500 to spend, make sure you get a gaming laptop with at least 16GB RAM. Then you can be assured you won’t have any lag even if you run many applications at once or simply have too many tabs open on your web browser.
Intel Core i7 7700HQ – The standard CPU in the price range
The Intel Core i7 7700HQ is the most common processor in the best gaming laptops under $1500. It has an impressive CPUmark score of over 8900 and will handle any demanding program like a breeze.
Get an SSD for super fast load and boot times
A solid-state drive will help speed up your laptop tremendously. With the right SSD loading programs and games will be near instant. It also lowers the time it takes for the laptop to start up. Check out the difference an SSD can make to the boot times of a laptop:
A regular hard drive (HDD) is still the standard in this price range if you want to save a lot of files. That’s why manufacturers usually combine a fast SSD for the programs you want to load quickly and an HDD for when you want to save files.
Make sure it’s doesn’t run too hot
A common issue in gaming laptops is heating problems. With powerful hardware made for gaming, all cramped in a small laptop chassis, there’s no doubt that it will get warm. If you don’t mind some added noise, you can easily solve this problem with just around 20 bucks. An external laptop fan if it get’s warm on the sides can help. And if it’s too hot underneath a laptop cooling pad is a great solution for hot laptops.
Be aware of short battery life
Almost all gaming laptops have a sub par battery. Be prepared to compromise on battery life for better gaming performance. So, if you go for a gaming laptop, don’t expect running demanding games for extended periods of time. The standard battery life in a gaming laptop is only a few hours of gaming before you need to charge it again.
There are some options when it comes to the display on a gaming laptop under $1500. The standard is a 1080 x 1920 (Full HD) screen. But you can in some cases, get a screen with 4K resolution (3840×2160). If you do a lot of editing work, a 4K screen might be worth it. But for most gamers, it’s not worth it. The fact is, you’ll need a better graphics card than the graphics cards you find in this price range that to play games in 4K. At least if you want to play them with reasonable frame rates.
Another factor to consider is the refresh rate of the screen. Most displays in this price range have a 60Hz refresh rate. But if you want to play with more than 60 fps, consider a screen with 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate. This is especially useful if you play time-intensive games and want the smoothest gaming experience possible.
Some gaming laptops for $1500 are VR ready. With a VR ready gaming laptop, you can use the laptop with something like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive to run virtual reality games. To run VR you’ll need at least a Nvidia 1060 GPU, an i5 processor or better and at least 8GB RAM.
Durable and lightweight design
A portable gaming laptop is a must if you are going to bring it with you. Pick a gaming laptop with a durable but lightweight design. Then you can easily bring it with you and don’t have to worry about it breaking.
Many gaming laptops under $1500 offer impressive, illuminated keyboards with fast press time and proper key spacing. Typing on a $1500 gaming laptop is often an enjoyable experience. The trackpad is also usually alright, but as a gamer, you’ll most likely use an external mouse anyway.
Most modern gaming laptops lack an optical drive. This is because most games are played and installed from an online service like Steam.
If you want to have an optical drive, make sure the laptop has it, and if it doesn’t, it’s often easy to install one yourself and doesn’t cost much today.
