#1 Best Gaming Laptop Under $1500: MSI GL65 Leopard
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card is finally available in gaming laptops under $1500! The best gaming laptop with an RTX 2070 for under $1500 is the MSI GL65.
The RTX 2070 has fantastic gaming performance. If you look at the game benchmarks, you’ll see that it runs almost every game at 60 fps on ultra settings. With the RTX 2070, you’ll never have to worry about if your laptop can run a game smoothly.
Another up-to-date component in the GL65 is the processor, the 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H. It does have some minor improvements compared to the previous generation i7-9750H CPU. This means it will handle any demanding applications with ease.
This laptop has a classic MSI gaming laptop look. It weighs 5 pounds (2.3 kg), and even if it’s a bit heavier than some of the competition, it’s sturdy and well made. The SteelSeries keyboard is comfortable for gaming, and with the per-key RGB, you can personalize each key with a light of your choice.
The Full HD display is bright and has vivid colors. It’s an IPS screen, so it looks great from any angle. 144Hz refresh is perfect when you’re playing competitive games at 144 fps. The colors are well-calibrated out of the box, and the display covers 94% of the sRGB color space.
It’s a fast laptop with 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD. If you feel 512GB is too small, you can easily upgrade it. The dedicated thermal solution does a good job of keeping the temperatures down, but the fans can be quite loud.
With a 51WHr battery, expect around 4 hours of battery when doing everyday computing tasks and around 2 hours when gaming. If you come from a multimedia laptop, it might seem like short battery life, but that is about what you should expect in a gaming laptop with as powerful hardware as the MSI Gl65.
Summary: With a 4.8 stars rating on Amazon after over 250 ratings, you can be sure this is a quality product. If you want the best bang for the buck, then go for this laptop.
|Can run almost all games on 60 fps on ultra settings||Quite loud fans|
|144Hz IPS display||Exterior prone to fingerprints|
|Excellent 10th gen Intel Core i7 processor||No Thunderbolt 3 port|

Acer has finally released the Acer Predator Triton 300 with an RTX 2070 for under $1500.
This laptop has all the specs you’re going to need to fully enjoy smooth gaming on the highest graphics settings. It has the same powerful graphics card as the MSI GL65 above. The Nvidia RTX 2070 GPU combined with the Intel Core i7-10750 CPU and 16GB DDR4 RAM makes for some excellent gaming performance.
The Triton 300 is quite lightweight and has a weight of 4.63 pounds. It has a plastic chassis with an exterior of aluminum. The dark abyssal color and the rounded edges gives the laptop a clean look, but the surface is prone to fingerprints.
You can adjust the RGB of the keyboard in four separate zones. The touchpad is enjoyable but can be a bit sensitive at times.
If you usually play competitive FPS games, you’re going to love the screen. It has a 144hz refresh rate and a 3ms response time. The 15.6″ full HD IPS display has vivid colors and is overall an excellent screen for gaming.
With a 1TB NVMe SSD, you’ll get plenty of storage and fast load and boot times. Another advantage of this laptop is the ease of upgrades. It’s easy to open it up and install an additional harddrive or adding more RAM.
As with most gaming laptops, there are some issues with battery life and heat management. The battery life is on the shorter side when gaming, and it tends to get hot during longer gaming sessions.
Summary: The Acer Predator Triton 300 has great value for the price. You’ll get a lightweight gaming laptop with fast performance, excellent gaming performance, and a vivid 144hz display. Just be aware that it tends to run hot so you might need a cooling pad or an external fan.
|Lightweight and compact design||Not the best speakers|

|Upgrading it is easy||Runs hot|
#3 Best 17-inch Gaming Laptop Under $1500: HP Omen 17
If you’re looking for a desktop-replacement to run the latest games, then one of the best options is the HP Omen 17. This 17-inch laptop is fast, durable, and has excellent gaming performance.
The HP Omen 17 has a subtle look with its lid closed. It’s not until you open the lid that you’ll see that this is a laptop made for gaming. The keyboard has a clear tactile keystroke, and you can adjust the RGB keyboard backlighting in four separate zones. The touchpad is responsive and has two physical buttons.
With a weight of over 5 pounds and a somewhat bulky design, it’s not the most portable option, but it’s nevertheless sturdy and well-designed.
If you play competitive multiplayer games, you’re going to love the 144hz full HD screen. It has a fast response time, vivid colors, and excellent image quality.
This laptop won’t let you down when it comes to gaming performance. It has a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 1075H CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and the Nvidia RTX 2070. It will run run almost all of the latest games smoothly on ultra graphics settings. The 512GB SSD is fast, but 512 GB of storage is on the lower side. Luckily you can easily pop off the bottom plate after unscrewing some screws to upgrade the SSD or the RAM.
Even with the demanding hardware, it’s still able to stay cool even after long gaming sessions. The battery life is the laptop’s weakest point. Expect less than 4 hours of video playback on a full charge.
Summary: If you’re looking for an affordable 17-inch gaming laptop to run the latest games on ultra settings, I would recommend the HP Omen 17. It’s probably the best 17-inch gaming laptop under $1500 at the moment.
|Excellent gaming performance||Heavy|
|Good cooling system||Short battery life|
|Easy to upgrade||Quiet speakers|
#4 A Solid RTX 2070 Option: ASUS ROG Strix G15
Another good RTX 2070 gaming laptop under $1500 is the Asus Rog Strix G15.
The main thing that makes its design stand out is the RGB led strip around the edge of the bottom of the case. Even if the chassis is mostly made of plastic, it’s surprisingly robust. It has all the latest ports, including USB 3.2, a display port, and an HDMI 2.0b port that can handle an external 4K monitor. The only thing that’s missing is a Thunderbolt 3 support.
The keyboard is an RGB keyboard with per-key backlighting. It feels great for gaming and has a comfortable palm rest. The touchpad is alright, but sometimes it doesn’t read gestures correctly.
Just like the rest of the top-rated gaming notebooks under $1500, it has a fast IPS display. A good 3ms grey-to-grey response time and a solid contrast ratio provide top-notch image quality on the latest games. The color coverage (64% of the sRGB gamut) is acceptable for gaming but not suitable for graphic design.
This laptop has excellent hardware for the price. It has a 10th Gen Intel Core i7-10750H processor and 16GB DDR4 ram. The powerful CPU, the fast ram combined with a 1TB NVMe SSD, makes the laptop capable of running the latest games and demanding applications without any issues. Like the MSI on the top of the list, it has an RTX 2070 graphics card running the latest games on ultra settings with smooth frame rates.
With hardware like that, you’ll have to sacrifice a battery performance, and the G15 is no exception. Be prepared to play plugged in for longer gaming sessions. It does stay cool, but the fans are quite noisy on max load.
Summary: The Asus ROG Strix G15 is a high-end laptop that will run the latest games smoothly on ultra, but it can get loud on max load.
|Blazing fast||Loud fans on max load|
|240hz display||No Thunderbolt 3 support|
|RTX 2070 graphics||Subpar color coverage|
#5 Best RTX 2060 Laptop under $1500: Asus Rog ROG FX506IV
The latest Asus Rog Rog model has the best components you can find in any gaming laptop under $1500. However, some things keep the ROG from the top spot…
The graphics card inside the Rog FX506IV is the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060. The RTX 2070 in the MSI above has 32% higher effective speed, but the RTX 2060 will still provide excellent gaming performance. If you look at the RTX 2060 benchmarks, you’ll see that this laptop can run almost every game at ultra settings on smooth frame rates.
If you are looking for a durable laptop, then the FX506IV won’t disappoint. It has a military-grade design wand feels very sturdy. Even if the exterior is mostly made of metal, it’s surprisingly light and slim. The keyboard is illuminated, but there’s only a single zone, so you can’t customize the colors of each separate part of the keyboard. The keys have 1.8mm key travel, and it’s an all-around good keyboard.
The CPU is the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H, a powerful processor released in March 2020 with an insane 19139 CPU Mark Score (compared to the Intel Core i7-8750H score of 10259).
You’ll get plenty of memory with the 1 Terabyte Nvme Solid State Drive. With the fast SSD and 32GB DDR4 RAM, you’ll get excellent gaming performance, but the powerful hardware will affect how hot the laptop runs.
Be prepared that this laptop will run quite hot when gaming. It might be a good idea to buy a cooling pad to reduce the temperatures. You can dial the fans down, however, to get maximum cooling, you have to accept some fan noise.
As with any high-end laptop with secs as good as these, the battery life will suffer. Expect less than 2 hours of battery life on high load.
If you enjoy competitive games that are best run at highest fps possible, then you’re going to love the 144hz Full HD IPS screen. Since it’s an IPS display, it has good viewing angles, and with a refresh rate of 144hz, you can play games on 144 fps for better response times and smoother gaming experience.
Summary: The Asus Rog FX506 has top-notch components. You can play almost any game on it with the impressive hardware. However, the colors are a bit washed out, and as with most laptops with specs like these, expect a low battery life.
|Powerful AMD Ryzen 7 CPU||Runs hot after long gaming sessions|
|Fast 1TB SSD||Sub-par color coverage|
|32GB RAM||No Thunderbolt 3|
#6 Best Lightweight Gaming Laptop under $1500: Razer Blade Stealth
For some gamers, specs aren’t everything. Perhaps you don’t need the latest graphics card. Maybe you instead want something sturdy, portable, and something that feels amazing to use. If that sounds like you, then check out the Razer Blade Stealth.
Razer has created the perfect hybrid between a powerful traditional gamers laptop and an ultraportable laptop. The Stealth is a 13-inch gaming laptop with a weight of 2.84 lbs (1,28 kg). It’s 0.6″ (15mm) thin, so it’s a very lightweight option that will be easy to bring with you. The exterior is made of light but durable CNC aluminum that gives it a nice, premium feel.
On the sides of the laptop, you’ll find every port you’ll need. It even comes with a Thunderbolt 3 port. The only thing some will miss is an SD card slot.
The trackpad is one of the better trackpads you’ll find in the best gaming laptops under $1500. Anyone that’s a fan of RGB will love the customizable RGB keyboard, with 16.8 million colors. To save battery, Razer opted for a single color, so you can’t customize the color of each key.
The battery life is one of the highlights of this gaming laptop. On PCWorld’s battery test, it lasted almost 10 hours.
Inside the Razer Blade Stealth, you’ll find 16GB DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SSD. The processor is the Intel Core i7-1065G7. The i7-1065G7 is made to be power efficient while still capable of running demanding applications smoothly. No matter what you try to run on the Razer Blade Stealth, it runs it surprisingly quietly without any lag.
If you compare the GPU of the Razer Blade Stealth with the RTX 2060, you’ll see some significant performance differences. The Nvidia RTX 2060 has an 93% higher effective speed than the Nvidia GTX 1650 Max Q in the Razer Blade Stealth.
Even if the 1650 Max Q is a serious downgrade compared to the other laptops, it’s can still run most games with 30+ fps on high-ultra settings, as you can see at the benchmarks at the end of this article.
Summary: The graphics card is a bit weaker than the GPU’s of the other laptops on the list. However, if you want a quality gaming laptop that runs quietly with long battery life, get the Razer Blade Stealth.
|Very light and portable||Gaming performance is worse than other sub-$1500 gaming laptops|
|Quiet||Exterior prone to fingerprints|
|Long battery life||No SD card slot|
#7 Best Nvidia GTX gaming laptop 2020: Acer Predator Helios 300
The Acer Predator Helios 300 was our winner of the best gaming laptops under $1500 during almost the whole of the year 2019. Their latest update of this model has kept many of the things we loved about the old Helios 300. It now has the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card, and since the release of the Nvidia RTX Series, it has fallen off in favor of more powerful RTX-based laptops.
If you compare the GTX 1660 Ti to the RTX 2060, you’ll see that the RTX 2060 has around 6% higher benchmarks. You can still expect it to run most games at 60+ fps on ultra settings. Have a look at the gaming benchmark on this NotebookCheck article.
The illuminated keyboard has concave-shaped keycaps and feels great for both gaming and typing. The case is made of plastic with aluminum details. It’s an all-around high-quality design, and with a weight of 6.39 pounds (2.9 kg), it’s quite lightweight for being a 17.3″ gaming laptop.
The biggest design flaw of the Helios 300 is that it can get quite hot during intense gaming sessions. The custom-engineered AeroBlade fans do help, but they tend to be a bit loud on max load. Acer claims 6 hours of battery life, but that is a bit optimistic for gaming. Expect around 2 hours of battery life when playing games.
The Acer Predator Helios is a great choice if you want to save some money, but with a lower price, you won’t get as much storage. 512Gb of storage is on the lower-end for serious gaming, but the SSD is really fast. Just like the other best gaming laptops under $1500, it has 16GB RAM. It’s G-sync ready and can handle VR.
This is a good option for those of you that want to play at higher fps than 60. The display supports up to 144 fps, and it has a response time of 3ms, making it ideal for competitive games where reaction speed matters.
Summary: The Acer Predator Helios 300 has an excellent 144hz screen and fast gaming performance. Just make sure to keep the high temperatures under control by something like a cooling pad.
|Large 144hz screen with fast response times||GTX 1660 Ti falls behind laptops with RTX graphics card|
|Good price to performance ratio||512GB of storage is on the lower end|
|Nice keyboard with RBG backlight||Runs hot on max load|
#8 Largest Storage: Lenovo Legion Y540
If your main priority isn’t the best possible graphics card but rather the best overall hardware, then what you’re looking for might be the Lenovo Legion Y540.
This gaming laptop comes with 32GB DDR4 RAM, a 1TB SSD, and 1TB HDD. With 32GB RAM, you can be sure that it will handle serious multitasking and ram-demanding applications such as editing software without any lag. Most gaming laptops don’t even come with a 1TB SSD, but this laptop has 2GB of storage, all the storage you will need. The processor is the 9th Gen Intel Core i7-9750H. It’s one of the best CPUs on the market, but these days you can find the 9th Intel Core i7-9750H with slightly better performance in some of the competition.
Even if the graphics card won’t match up to the RTX 2070 and RTX 2060 GPUs of the top options, the included Nvidia GTX 1650 will still provide a smooth gaming experience on older and non-demanding games. If you look at the FPS of the graphics card here, you’ll see it will run most games smoothly but will have some issues with more demanding games on ultra settings.
The display is an IPS screen with wide viewing angles, a refresh rate of 144hz, and a 1920 x 1080 (full HD) resolution. It’s a bright screen that works well outside. The colors are alright for gaming but not accurate enough for professional design work.
With a chassis made mostly of aluminum, holding the Lenovo Legion Y740 gives a durable and premium impression. It has an overall high-quality design, but the webcam placement (bottom of the screen) gives the webcam awkward viewing angles. Another thing to be aware of that the battery won’t last more than 2-3 hours before you need to charge it.
Summary: With 2TB of storage and 32GB RAM, the Lenovo Legion Y540 has the best storage on the list. The graphics card, however, lacks in performance compared to the competition.
|32GB RAM||GPU weaker than the competition|
|1TB SSD and 1TB HDD||Awkward webcam placement|
|144hz display||Poor battery life|
#9 32GB RAM and 120hz Display: MSl GF65
With an impressive 32GB RAM, a fast Intel Core i7 processor, and a vibrant 120Hz display, the MSI GF65 is a worthy contender as the best gaming laptop under $1500.
Just like the Acer Predator, this laptop has the Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics card. The Nvidia RTX 2060 has 51% better benchmarks than the Nvidia GTX 1060. The framerates you’ll get in gaming with this graphics card is impressive! Have a look yourself at the end of this article. Scroll down this article and look at the fps you’ll get on the latest games with this GPU.
With a 10th Generation Intel Core i7 processor and 32GB RAM, it has powerful enough hardware to handle anything you throw at it.
Even if this laptop has a sturdy metal lid and keyboard cover, it weighs less than 4 pounds (1.8 kg). The keyboard, made by SteelSeries, has smooth, clicky feedback, and is perfect for gaming. The trackpad is a weak point, but since this is a gaming laptop, you’re most likely going to use a gaming mouse anyway.
The screen is a full HD TN-panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz. It has fast response time and good brightness. Since it’s an IPS screen, it has good viewing angles. The colors are good enough for gaming, but not accurate enough for graphics design work.
The biggest downside of this laptop is that it tends to get quite hot after an hour of gaming. It could be a good idea to get a cooling pad to keep the temperatures down during long gaming sessions.
Summary: The MSI GL62 8SE-209 is the first RTX 2060 gaming laptop you can get for under $1500. It has excellent gaming performance, but it lacks in the rest of the hardware compared to the competition, that’s why it’s #8 on our list.
|32GB DDR4 RAM||Hot under load|
|Feels great to game on||Screen has narrow color coverage|
|1TB NVMe SSD||Sub-par touchpad|
#10 Best Heat Management: Dell G7
The Dell G7 has excellent hardware and keeps cool even during long gaming sessions. Before you rush to buy it, there are some things to be aware of.
The black chassis is made of 99% plastic. Even if it’s made of plastic, it feels sturdy. The keyboard has a nice blue backlight and good key placement. All the keys are just where they need to be. The biggest disadvantage of the keyboard is the shallow key travel.
The screen is a full HD Led display that is unfortunately quite dim, and the colors are a bit dull. The screen only covers 56% of the sRGB gamut.
Under the keyboard, you’ll find some excellent components. The CPU is the Intel Core i7-8750H, a great gaming processor with six cores, that will handle any program you throw at it. The GPU is a bit weaker than most graphics cards you’ll find in the best gaming laptops under $1500. With an Nvidia GeForce 1060 Max Q, it won’t perform on the level of the GTX 2060, but if you check out the frame rates here, you’ll see it will still run most games smoothly at ultra settings. It has 24GB RAM of the latest generation of RAM, and it features both a 1TB HDD and a 128GB SSD, so you can load Windows with lightning speed.
The biggest advantage of the Dell G7 is the excellent heat management. It has two large fan exhausts on the back and will keep low temperatures even when you have played demanding games for a longer period. The downside to this is that the fan noise is noticeable if you’re not wearing a headset.
Summary: The Dell G7 has excellent hardware for smooth and lag-free gaming. However, the screen is a bit dim, and the colors are dull. That’s why the Dell G5 is ninth on the list of the best gaming laptops under $1500.
|Amazing gaming performance||Dim display|
|Solid build quality||Shallow keys|
|Runs cold||Loud fan noise|
The Ultimate Guide To Buying a Gaming Laptop Under $1500
When buying a high-end gaming laptop, there is one thing that will have a big impact on your gaming performance. There are also some things that will make your gaming experience a lot better. Let’s start with the thing that will have a major impact on your gaming performance.
Pick the right GPU
I have already talked quite a bit about picking the right graphics card in the buying guide of my list of the best gaming laptops under $1000. If you haven’t already, read it to understand why you need to look for a current and dedicated GPU in your next gaming laptop under $1500, or any gaming laptop for that matter.
In this price range, you should get the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 graphics card or better. The Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 is a strong GPU that can run most games with high frame rates on high or ultra graphics settings.
In some rare cases, you can get a gaming laptop with the Nvidia GeForce 2070 for under $1500, but you might have to sacrifice performance in another part of the notebook to get a GPU as powerful as the Nvidia GeForce 2070.
The MSI GL65 Leopard is an example of a laptop that is sometimes available for less than $1500 with the Nvidia RTX 2070. It has excellent gaming performance, but it has quite load fans and lacks a Thunderbolt 3 port.
There are also many gaming laptops with GPUs weaker than the Nvidia Geforce GTX 2060, like the Nvidia 1060. Ignore these as you can get much better gaming performance for the money.
Get at least 16GB RAM
If you have $1500 to spend, make sure you get a gaming laptop with at least 16GB RAM. Then you can be assured you won’t have any lag even if you run many applications at once or simply have too many tabs open on your web browser.
Intel Core i7-10750H – The standard CPU in the price range
The 10th generation Intel Core i7 10750H is the most common processor in the best gaming laptops under 1500 dollars. It has an impressive CPUmark score of 12696 and will handle any demanding program like a breeze. An alternative to the Intel Core i7 processor is the AMD Ryzen 7 processor. When it comes to overall performance, Ryzen processors are often just as strong or even more powerful than the latest Intel Core i7 CPUs.
Get an SSD for super-fast load and boot times
A solid-state drive will help speed up your laptop tremendously. With the right SSD loading programs and games will be near-instant. It also lowers the time it takes for the laptop to start up. Check out the difference an SSD can make to the boot times of a laptop:
A regular hard drive (HDD) is still standard in gaming laptops under $1500 if you want to save a lot of files. That’s why manufacturers usually combine a fast SSD for the programs you want to load quickly and an HDD for when you want to save files.
Make sure it’s doesn’t run too hot
A common issue in gaming laptops is overheating. With powerful hardware made for gaming, all cramped in a small laptop chassis, there’s no doubt that it will get warm. If you don’t mind some added noise, you can easily solve it with just around 20 bucks. An external laptop fan, if it gets warm on the sides, can help. And if it’s too hot underneath, a laptop cooling pad is a great solution for hot laptops.
Be aware of short battery life
Almost all gaming laptops have a sub par battery. Be prepared to compromise on battery life for better gaming performance. So, if you go for a powerful gaming laptop, don’t expect running demanding games on battery for extended periods. The standard battery life in a gaming laptop is only a few hours of gaming before you need to charge it again.
There are some options when it comes to the display on a laptop for gaming under $1500 under $1500. The standard is a 1080 x 1920 (Full HD) screen. But you can, in some cases, get a display with 4K resolution (3840×2160). If you do a lot of editing work, a 4K screen might be worth it. But for most gamers, it’s not worth it. The fact is, you’ll need a better GPU than the graphics cards for less than $1500 to play games in 4K. At least if you want to play them with reasonable frame rates.
Another factor to consider is the refresh rate of the screen. Most sub $1500 laptop displays have a 60Hz refresh rate. But if you want to play with more than 60 frames per second, consider a screen with a 120Hz or 144Hz refresh rate. This is especially useful if you play time-intensive games and want the smoothest gaming experience possible.
Some gaming laptops for $1500 are VR ready. With a VR ready gaming laptop, you can use the laptop with something like the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive to run virtual reality games. To run VR, you’ll need at least an Nvidia 1060 GPU, an i5 processor or better, and at least 8GB RAM.
Durable and lightweight design
A portable gaming laptop is a must if you are going to bring it with you. Pick a gaming laptop with a durable but lightweight design. Then you can easily bring it with you and don’t have to worry about it breaking.
Many gaming laptops under $1500 offer impressive, illuminated keyboards with fast press time and proper key spacing. Typing on a $1500 gaming laptop is often an enjoyable experience. The trackpad is also usually alright, but as a gamer, you’ll most likely use an external mouse anyway.
Most modern gaming laptops lack a CD/DVD drive. This is because most games are played and installed from an online service like Steam.
If you want to have an optical drive, make sure the laptop has it, and if it doesn’t, it’s often easy to install one yourself and doesn’t cost much today.
