Eluktronics Prometheus Review

Some people say that if you’re looking for the best gaming laptop on the market, it’s hard to beat Eluktronics. While this brand isn’t as well-known as others, they offer laptops with high-end specs at very competitive prices. The company was founded in 2011 by gamers who wanted a laptop that would be powerful enough to play games like Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 without sacrificing game time or dealing with terrible frame rates. They’ve done an excellent job of designing laptops that can handle these demanding graphics while still being affordable for everyone!

Design

The Eluktronics Prometheus is designed with gamers in mind, making it one of the most durable laptops on the market! Even if the case is primarily made of plastic, it still feels stable and doesn’t show any signs of flexing.

Many gaming laptops have very flashy designs that can be too “gamer looking” for some, but the Eluktronics Prometheus strikes a perfect balance between subtle and flashy. It has no branding or logos, but the LED strip on the back of the lid gives it a subtle gamer look. The Eluktronics Prometheus has an all-black design with no other colors, which may seem dull. Still, it’s professional-looking and elegant, so it works well in just about any environment.

The laptop is a bit heavier than some of the more portable options out there, weighing about five and a half pounds. For example, more portable gaming laptops such as the MSI GL66 Stealth weigh over 1 pound less, but the weight difference is not noticeable in everyday use.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The keyboard is one of the best features of the Eluktronics Prometheus. It has a standard layout with well-spaced keys that provide a superb typing experience. On the right side of the keyboard, you will find a number pad. Unfortunately, there’s no space between the NumPad and the rest of the keyboard, which can be a bit awkward for touch typists. The arrow keys also feel crammed since they infringe on the number pad at the bottom.

Like most gaming laptops, the Prometheus XVII uses an RBG backlit keyboard. You can’t adjust the color of each key, but you can choose from a few different effects, such as breathing and cycling.

The touchpad is also similar to other high-performance gaming laptops under $2000. It’s accurate and responsive, but some people find it too big. If you feel it’s too large and accidentally brush it while typing, it’s possible to disable it.

Display

The Eluktronics Prometheus is equipped with a 17.3-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440p) 165Hz display.

This laptop is made for gaming, so the screen is impressive. The colors are vibrant, and you can see every little detail while playing your favorite games. The viewing angles are great too. No matter where you sit, you’ll be able to see the screen clearly.

One downside of the display is that it’s not very bright. With a brightness of 300 nits, it’s not the brightest laptop on the market. So, if you’re looking for a computer to use outdoors or in a very bright setting, this might not be the best option.

Having a refresh rate of 165Hz is nothing to scoff at either. If you’re playing an FPS game, it will feel very smooth because of the high refresh rate and low latency. It’s no 240hz gaming laptop, but the screen has a response time of just 5ms, which is faster than the average response time of a high-end desktop replacement.

With a 2560 x 1440p resolution, the screen is very detailed. Text looks smooth and crisp, and the extra screen estate will be great for multitasking.

The display’s color accuracy is impressive, with a Delta E average of < 2 and a 96% sRBG color coverage.

Ports

The new Prometheus XVII comes with plenty of ports, including:

  • A Thunderbolt 4
  • An HDMI 2.1 port that is tied directly to the NVIDIA graphics card for the best possible performance
  • Ethernet LAN for fast and stable internet connections
  • Two USB 3.1 (gen 2) USB ports and 1 USB 3.1 (Gen 2)
  • Audio in/out
  • SD card reader
  • Kensington lock slot for added security

With this selection of ports, you won’t have to worry about any compatibility problems.

Performance

The Eluktronics Prometheus XVII is one of the most powerful laptops on the market. It features an Intel Core i7-11800H CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

The Intel Core i7-11800H + processor is a CPU with impressive power that can compete with even the best AMD Ryzen laptops on LaptopBlogger.com.

The Nvidia RTX 3080 is one of the best graphics cards you can find in any gaming laptop. It offers considerably better performance than last generation’s RTX 2080. It has a 16% higher effective speed and 12% higher average score than the RTX 2080, according to UserBenchmark. As you’ll see on these RTX 3080 gaming benchmarks, the graphics card is more than capable of running the latest games at ultra settings.

The Prometheus XVII also features a 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD. This is one of the fastest storage options available, and it will ensure that you can load games quickly and run them smoothly. The fast SSD will also help the Windows 10 operating system boot up fatser. 512GB of storage is on the lower end of what you’ll find on most high-end laptops. However, it’s easy to open up the storage and upgrade it to a larger capacity if needed.

Battery and Cooling

One of the highlights of the Eluktronics Prometheus XVII is its impressive thermal design. The laptop features two fans and five copper heat pipes, which work together to keep the CPU and GPU cool. It does a fantastic job of keeping the temperate down, even when gaming or running other intensive tasks. Even after long gaming sessions, the temperatures tend to stay in the 80s. Not only does this help with performance, but it also helps to extend battery life.

The battery life on the Eluktronics Prometheus is about what you should expect from a gaming laptop in this price range. It has a 62Whr battery, which isn’t the biggest around. Expect around 4-6 hours of run time with light to medium use and about 2 – 3 hours with gaming. While that’s not the best battery life around, it’s still about what to expect for a laptop with hardware like this.

Conclusion

The Eluktronics Prometheus is an excellent gaming laptop. The Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics are top-of-the-line, easily achieving 60+ FPS even on the highest settings in most modern games. It’s also got a speedy NVMe SSD and 16GB of RAM to keep things moving along nicely during intense multitasking or demanding work.

While not everything about this laptop is perfect, it still lives up to its price point with great hardware as well as a powerful cooling system that keeps temps low under heavy load – all housed within a sleek black plastic case. While I have some nitpicks (average screen brightness, for example), you can’t go wrong buying the Prometheus if you’re looking for something at this price point.
